For the love of good food: By Bill Aitken

Sandeep & Sandy are two young gastrnomes who have taken their love of good food one step further and opened a relaxed and stylish restaurant in Beecroft Village Arcade offering what they claim is the best North Indian cuisine available in the local area.

Dawat the Indian Feast offers an aromatic menu from Starters through to Desserts and includes a choice of chicken, lamb, beef, seafood and vegetarian main dishes along with hyderabadi biryani (basmati rice cooked with an exotic blend of herbs and spices with a choice of vegetables, chicken, lamb or beef).

There is an exotic selection of breads ranging from plain naan through to masala kulcha (stuffed with cheese, potatoes and green chillies) and peshawari naan (stuffed with nuts and sultanas).

I could tell you about the smoothness and subtle flavour of the Butter Chicken or about Lamb Pepper Masala, (diced lamb pan sautéed in spicy masala with fresh chillies, ginger, onions, tomatoes and capsicum) but my dining partner and I shared the Indian Feast which included a mixed tandoori platter, a beef, lamb and vegetarian curry (all mild) with a selection of plain naan or garlic and a side dish platter of pappadums, assorted pickles, tomato and onion salad and yoghurt raita.

We rounded this ample meal out with the dessert and at the end of this delectable banquet we were more than happy to receive the bill (just 26.90 each).

Dawat the Indian Feast also offers The Royal Feast for a minimum of 4 people at just $30.90 per person.

The restaurant is open for dinner 7 nights 5:30 pm onwards. It is BYO and offers both eat-in and take-away which comes with free rice and pappadums. The food is delicious and the servings more than ample. From what we sampled the owners' claim to having the best North Indian cuisine in the area was not an idle boast.
